April 2004

The Worthy Prez sez….

Smiling as I write this column for April and I wonder what Toni is thinking.  Maybe we will be different.  Anyway, Spring is here and our Snowbird friends are returning.  Welcome back!

Improvements have been completed on our heating system and the temperature is now more uniform.  Special thanks to Jim O’Connell for his continuing efforts on this project.

The new carpet and tile installation in Social Room is scheduled to begin  April 16.  The bar surface will also be refinished.  As a result, the Banquet Room will serve as the social room for five days.   Please be patient while this work is completed.

The District Meeting was a great success.  The dinner was delicious and numerous comments expressed about the beauty of the Club.  Thanks to everyone involved.

Don’t forget to order your pasties.  As you are aware, proceeds from this sale go into the scholarship fund whereby we give  $1000 scholarships to deserving students at Beaverton, Gladwin, and Ogemaw Heights.

In closing, the election of officers is just around the corner.  I urge everyone to consider becoming involved.  You are needed and it is a rewarding experience.

Remember to say a prayer for our Troops!!

Thanks for your support.  See you at the meetings.

To Our Membership

I am disturbed and saddened by the way our members acted when applications were given out for this years Golf Outing.  Applications were going to be given on a first come basis at 12:00.  We had 38 applications (plus 2 for the chairmen) and about 60 members showed up at noon for an application.  Everyone was given a raffle ticket and we had a drawing for the available applications.  The foul language and complaining I heard from the non-winners is not what our club was built on.  Not only on this occasion but often we hear complaints, usually by members who won’t volunteer for anything but just want the benefits of membership in our Aerie.  It is easy to sit back and criticize but instead let’s applaud those members who step forward and volunteer to make our wonderful organization a success.  If it wasn’t for these few Aerie and Auxiliary Members, we would not have a Club.

The Madam Prez sez…

First thing on my agenda is to thank all who helped in anyway with the District Meeting.  We received a lot of compliments from all the different clubs who attended.  They loved the atmosphere as well as the food.  We all know what excellent cooks we have and the desserts that were donated were wonderful!!!!

Our Grand Madam President will be visiting us on April 21st. She will be here about 12:30. It's not that often that we have the opportunity to entertain the Grand Madam and hopefully we have a good turnout to meet and greet her.  Watch bulletin board for more details.

Election of officers will be in May.  Anyone interested in running for office will be able to sign Nomination sheet which will be posted in club soon.

Pasties are on sale now.  They will be available for pick-up on April 27 & 28th.  They sell for $2.00 @ and must be paid for at time of order.  The monies made from sales, goes to the college scholarship fund for our local high schools.  For anyone interested in helping make the pasties , we will be starting on April 26th.

The Kids Easter Party will be April 3rd. from 1:00 till 2:30pm.  Sign up sheets are posted in club both to sign up children and to donate candy and cupcakes.  Brenda O'Neil will be handling the party and as always we welcome any volunteers to help.
