The Worthy Prez sez….

Winter is just about over and Spring is upon us. We will soon be welcoming back all the snowbirds to Secord Lake. As many of you know by now our Camel Races were a huge success. Thanks to all the workers and sponsors for their support.
The St. Patrick’s Day party was a good time and as always a “Thank You” to Mary, her crew, and the kitchen crew for all their help. We will continue to have our monthly Euchre tournaments. Watch the calendar for dates and times.
We will be having a Country Rib Dinner on Saturday, April 8th from 5 PM to 8 PM with entertainment to follow at 8 PM. Come on down and join the fun.
We will be going forward with the roof project this summer. We will be having some different functions to raise money throughout the year. Please help with your support.
In closing, please remember our troops in the Armed Forces in your prayers, that they will return home safe.

Aerie Chaplain’s Report
Sympathy cards went out to the family of John Abels, and Jan & Frank Alley for the loss of their son, Richard. Any loss of a son or daughter is devastating but to come so soon after celebrating the safe return of their son, Skeeter, from military service overseas must be truly heart-wrenching. And on that note, the officers and members of the Aerie would like to thank Skeeter for the donation of a very special American Flag. The flag is in a display case on the North wall of the club. Encased with the flag is a certificate listing the date that this flag was flown over the United Arab Emirates in a U-2 recon aircraft. A card was also sent to Ward Comer whose mother passed away.

Camel Race Committee Thank-You
The Camel Race Committee would like to thank all of our patrons who came out on February 25th for a night of fun and for making the Camel Races such a great success.  A special thank you, too, for our workers who made everything run so smoothly.  Also, thank you to our camel makers and Fred M. for making the trophies, our sponsors, harem girls, and sheiks for using their imagination and showing everyone what a great group of members we have at Secord Lake Eagles Aerie and Auxiliary.  Be proud of our club and your generosity. And this leads us into our next item !!!

Camel Race Weekend
Yes that's right!!!  We are having another camel race weekend on Friday, July 7th and Saturday, July 8th. If you are interested in sponsoring a camel  for one of these nights, please contact Jim Cooper  426-2809 (jcooper@ejourney.com) or Larry Santamour 426-2297 (lpsanta@hotmail.com).  Sponsorship fee of $20.00 (due by April 15th) will get you a camel to decorate and enter in the race.  We have a limited number of camels left and they are going fast. We are also looking for volunteer workers, harem girls (guys) and sheiks to help us run the races.   Plan on bringing your friends and family for a night of fun and excitement.

Road Pick-Up Chairman Needed
We desperately need an Aerie or Auxiliary member to take charge of our Adopt-a-Highway program. We are responsible for cleaning up a three-mile stretch of M-30 each Spring and Fall. Last year, we only were able to complete one pick-up, and we are in danger of losing our sponsorship unless someone is willing to step forward and head up the project. If you are interested, contact Jim Cooper at 426-2809 or your Aerie or Auxiliary President.

Texas Hold’Em Committee
A heartfelt “Thank you” goes out to everyone who helped with the last Texas Hold’Em tournament, especially the women and of course, the participants.

Our twice-monthly fish fries now have baked fish for those heart-conscious diners. The Fish Fry chairmen would like to thank Gary McGrath and Pat McGuire for this addition to the menu as well as all the other volunteers that make these fish fries possible.

The Madam Prez sez…

Congratulations to the February Euchre Tournament winners: the Hourtiennes, Aspins, and Towns. The proceeds from the tournaments have been going to the new roof.
The Camel Races were a huge success and everyone had a good time. I would like to thank Jim & Norene Cooper and Pat & Larry Santamour for their hard work getting everything together for the races, the beautiful “harem girls”, and of course, to all the volunteers who helped keep things running as smoothly as possible. Congratulations to the “Best -Dressed” camels – “S’More Beer”, “Shaloub the Sheik”, and Jan’s Campground. The next races are scheduled for July.
Carla Sylva chaired a “Moonlight Darts” tournament and raised $380.00 for Special Olympics. Thank you Carla and all the dart players.
The kid’s Easter Party will be April 8th from 1-2:30 PM. A sign-up sheet is hanging on the board. Nominations for all offices will be held at the April 22nd meeting. I hope to see many of you there.

Kathy Halloran
Madam President

Auxiliary Chaplain’s Report
“Thinking of you” cards were sent to Elaine St. Louis, Judy St. Louis, Jan Davis, Julie LaBean, Laura Hanson, Shirley Lenhart, Teddy Wixom, Debbie Smith and Nancy Hill. “Get well” cards were sent to Barb Blanchard, Ma Kern, and Pat Santamour. “Sympathy” cards went out to Jan Alley for her stepson and Rose Boike for her aunt.
We all make mistakes, but hopefully as we grow we learn from their lessons. Amends can be made for any harm we’ve done and we can change our behavior and attitudes so we don’t repeat our errors. Even painful past experiences can help us learn to create a better future. The ultimate lesson all of us have to learn is unconditional love, which includes not only others, but ourselves as well.

Auxiliary Chaplain

April Casino Trip

The bus will arrive at the club on Thursday, April 6th @ 8:30 AM and depart by 9:00. We will again go to St. Ignace first and then on to Kewadin for the overnight. Packages will be given out like last year: one at St. Ignace and then your large envelope at Kewadin. This will have your key cards, money, buffet coupons, gold coins, etc. On Friday, we will leave Kewadin at noon, go back to St. Ignace for a couple of hours, and you will receive your last package at this time. We will leave for home around 3:30 and then back to the club. Please bring a finger food to pass and your drinks, we will have 50/50's, horse races and the dollar game on the bus. Get ready to bring in spring with a lot of fun and hopefully bring back lots of money... See you on Thursday, April 6th

DEAR VOLUNTEERS

Where would we be without volunteers?
Who quickly respond when a need appears.

This is the way you have chosen to serve
What appreciation you do deserve!

There are very many things to do
And YOUR time can only be given by YOU!

So without complaint and without demands
You offer the labor of your hands.

The world is a better place to live
When people like you are so willing to give.

With this attitude of love and care
You will find a welcome anywhere.

You may not always know when someone
Is especially blessed by a kindness you’ve done;

As you freely share your hours and days,
May you also be blessed in many ways.
