The Worthy Prez sez….

Happy New Year!! I hope you enjoyed your Christmas holidays. As we look forward into the New Year, it’s a good time to reflect on all that’s occurred during the previous year. The volunteers who contribute to our many functions continue to make Secord Lake # 4121 the place to be!
This is a 2 month newsletter so please watch the website, calendar, the outdoor signs and the table tents for all the upcoming events.
Bob Town will chair Euchre tournaments on Friday, January 18th, and Friday, February 15th. Also, there are special events being planned, in addition to our regularly scheduled activities, including the Valentines party February 16th.
As a reminder, the Aerie business meetings are held the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of each month beginning at 9:30 A.M. I hope to see you there.
Please keep our members experiencing health problems and the men and women in our Military in your thoughts and prayers for their safe return home.
Sincerely, Curt Wingate
Worthy President

FUN RUNS FEBRUARY 1 & MARCH 2
Plans are still coming together for the Fun Runs this year but the dates are set. February 2nd and March 1st. Since this newsletter covers both Jan & Feb, and many details are still being worked out, please watch for signs in the Aerie, as well as on our website, for times for signup and more info. We have had Lost Arrow commit to having burger & beer specials the days of both runs: $1 Slider Burgers and $1.50 pints of Bud Light or Amber Bock beer. Please support all of the establishments that serve our run.

MOONLIGHT DARTS
Mark your calendar for our Moonlight Darts tournament, January 12th at 7:00 p.m.  Sign up starting at 6:00 p.m. $5.00 entry fee with the total payout going to first, second, and third place. We will also have a 50/50 going to the Presidents Charity.  You don't have to be a good dart thrower to join in this tournament. It is just another excuse to get together to play darts. Come join us.

ATTN: COMERICA PARK BASEBALL TRIP
Thanks to all who supported our 1st trip last year. From the feedback we had, everyone had a great time and is looking forward to this year. We will be having a few changes (for the better). Some of these are: More prizes, upgrade in seats (although our seats were great last year), having drinks served before our trip gets underway, and a better meal at the end of our trip – our Eagles, of course.
Due to some changes we will have to raise the price of tickets - we’ll try to keep it at a minimum but last year we were very close. We need a little more leeway for added expenses as gas price increases will affect the price of the bus. The planned date is June 12th @ 1 PM against the Chicago White Sox. Tickets are first come, first served and must be paid in full. We’ll post a selling date in February. There will be a signup sheet at the club for people who are interested in going so that we will have an idea of how many want to go. If you’re going to be out of town, have someone sign it for you.

AERIE DUES INCREASE
Due to the ever increasing expenses of insurances, property taxes, and the per capita tax levied for each member by the Grand Aerie, it was voted by the members attending the meeting of Saturday, December 8, 2007 to increase the dues by $5 to a total of $30 per year.

BY-LAWS AMENDMENT
The dues increase – see above - will necessitate an amendment to our by-laws. This can be a lengthy process where the Grand Aerie is concerned. It took several revisions last time before Grand Aerie approval and a total of over 6 months. Any members that feel there are any other revisions that need to be made should voice their concerns to a committee member so that it may be voted upon at a regular meeting and then incorporated into the changes being made. Mike Pigula, Terry Gorgon, and Pete Jakey are currently serving on the by-laws committee.

TRUSTEES CORNER
Back by popular demand – Monday Tacos! And after the 1st of the year, Barry & Dar will be making homemade soups and chili to keep us warm during the winter months. Other specials will be coming!

  The Madam Prez sez…

I hope everyone had a safe & happy holiday season. I know the kid’s Christmas Party was sure a big success thanks to Diane, Kim, Barb, and all their crew. I know I sure had fun taking pictures of the kids on Santa’s lap, opening presents, and decorating cookies, cupcakes & candy cane reindeer.
We have set out our shopping cart for a family in need. We made sure they had their Christmas dinner, but they still could use many other things, from food and paper products to warm clothing. Boys’ sizes 7 and 5: Girl’s size 3: ladies size 7: and men’s pants size 40x30.
When old man winter decided to awake from his long summer sleep, he awoke with a vengeance. As of the first part of December the fire department said there was 4 inches of ice by our club and I’m sure by now there is much more. Take care remembering ice can be unpredictable on your way to come and see us.
Tacos are back on Mondays and the Trustees are in the process of getting other specials together too. Be patient with our problems in our club, like our heating system. The trustees are aware of the problem, but remember winter seems to shrink the club’s wallet. But if we can bring the Aerie and Auxiliary together as one to chair events, we can fix anything.
Remember our soldiers and those in need in your prayers.

I hope 2008 brings happiness and health to all.

BOWLING TOURNAMENT
Secord is having a Bowling Tournament. It will be March 8th at 7:00 p.m.  If you've heard of the Wii video game system, that is what we will be using.  We will be playing three games of Power Bowl, and will take the average of the three games as your total score for the tournament. You don't even have to be a bowler to enjoy this game.  If you would like to see what the Wii is all about, come in on a Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and we will show you how it works.

TO ALL OF OUR FRIENDS AT SECORD LAKE EAGLES,
Words cannot begin to express the heartfelt gratitude and love that our family feels for the prayers, cards, calls and donations that we have received from you all. Our son Ken is stable, and trying to come back to us; he has been moved from Munson Medical, in Traverse City, to the Special Tree Rehabilitation System in Romulus, MI to start his rehab; he has a very long way to go but we know in our hearts that he can and will come back to us when he's ready. Until then, please keep praying, not only for Ken, but for our whole family.
There  is a special site you can go on-line to read about his story and progress, and if you want, you can write something. The site is, www.caringbridge.org/visit/kenhuggard.

                                            Thank You for your support,

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY A GREAT SUCCESS
We would like to thank everyone for the great turnout at the children’s Christmas party. Santa and Christmas Carol were wonderful. The children seemed to have had a great time. We would also like to thank all of our helpers, and those who gave us donations to help make it all possible.  Thank you so much.
                                                     Kim & Diane
