The Worthy Prez sez….
Hello members! We had another great month here at Secord Lake Eagles #4121. The fashion and comedy show was fantastic and thank you to all who took part. The Vegas Nite was a great success. Thanks to Dave & Leona and all the helpers, dealers, etc. As a reminder the Sunday dart league has started as well as all the pool leagues. We also have Bingo every Wednesday and Thursday so come and enjoy the fun. In closing, please keep our troops in your prayers.

Sincerely,
Tom Harris

Aerie Chaplain Report
A get well card was sent to Gary Collins, hope you’re feeling better - take care of yourself, and a sympathy card was sent to the Norton family on the passing of our friend and brother , Jim Norton. I know that he's helping St. Peter in that inside guard position!
Please remember to pray for the men and women in the armed forces and also pray for peace.

Editor’s Note:
As the summer ends and our members start to leave for their winter haunts, more and more space becomes available in the newsletter. Anyone wishing to have an event published, an announcement made, or have printed something of interest to our membership please put it in the newsletter box in the hallway by the bar. All articles should be placed by the 15th of the month before publication.

Trustees Corner
Members have seen a number of changes recently in the Social Room. We, the Board of Trustees, have tried to take into account the suggestions and needs of our membership in the placement of TV’s, dartboards and pool tables. While some rearranging of tables, equipment and entertainment items will be a trial and error process, we hope that the new arrangement is acceptable to our members. Nothing is “written in stone” and we are always open to input and thus will be fine tuning the placement as we find necessary.
We are also discussing the movement of entertainment, i.e., karaoke & DJ music, to the back or bingo room. Yes, we know we have tried this before and met with mixed – sometimes volatile - emotions from our membership. There is the argument by many that they want to have it in the Social Room because the bar is there and they don’t want to have to go from one room to another to get their drinks. Well, we’ve thought about this and a portable or temporary bar could be set up for those nights as well as having table service back there. The other drawback we’ve heard most often is the arrangement of the tables for viewing. Well we’ve talked to Al & Phyllis and as long as the tables get returned to their position for Bingo we could rearrange them as we’ve done for other events in that room to slant towards the stage or entertainment area. A plus is that the acoustics in that room are much better than that of the Social Room with its wooden walls & ceiling.
In support of the move, members have commented that they have wanted to bring guests and/or friends into the club on weekends to enjoy our club over a few drinks but they are drowned out by the music and thus stay away from the club on those nights. As many of our members still live downstate, they feel that they don’t have the use of the club on the few nights they are able to visit and socialize with company or other members. Having the entertainment in the Social Room also sometimes precludes the use of the pool tables and dartboards during those nights. We would like all members to be able to avail themselves of all facilities at all times. And while this obviously is not possible at all times such as during the UM/MSU game, St. Pat’s Party, etc., those should be the exceptions and not the rule.
Towards this end, we ask that members having something to say on this issue, whether for or against the movement, please put your suggestions into writing and deposit those in the Trustee’s suggestion box on the wall in the Social Room between the men’s and women’s bathrooms. Remember to sign and date them and please refrain from using anger or vulgarity to express your opinions as some have done in the past. All Eagles are equal in their rights to have their opinions expressed and heard!!!!
Thank you, BOT’s

7 OUT OF 16 THINGS THAT IT TOOK ME OVER 50 YEARS TO LEARN: by Dave Barry, Nationally Syndicated Columnist
*********************************
1. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
2. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be "meetings."
3. There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
4. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.
5. You should not confuse your career with your life.
6. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance. (I wish I had!)
7. Never lick a steak knife. (The other 9 next month !!!)
8. The most destructive force in the universe is gossip.
9. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.
10. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.
11. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven. (Right on!)
12. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above average drivers.
13. A person, who is nice to you, but rude to a waiter, is not a nice person. (This is very important. Pay attention. It never fails.)
14. Your friends love you anyway!
15. Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic.
16. Thought for the day: Men are like fine wine. They start out as grapes, and it's up to the women to stomp the crap out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.
