The Worthy Prez sez….
Hello and welcome to all of our new members. We had a great month and a special
thanks goes out to all the volunteers who helped. The Pig Roast was delicious.
Thanks to Mike Pigula and crew. The Red Neck Horseshoe tournament was a great
success and Jim & Norene did a wonderful job. Thanks to Marv & Joanie Dawson for
the adult games.
Please keep our troops in your thoughts and prayers. And last, but not least,
the Mystery Bus trip was a blast and everyone had a great time. The “Moon” over
Atlanta was a sight to behold.
Sincerely,
Tom Harris

Pig Roast
As you may have heard, this years Pig Roast was a great success. In addition to
our regular members, we also welcomed buses of fellow Eagles from Flint 629 &
Auto City.
Unfortunately, due to the large turn out, we were forced to stop serving earlier
than originally expected. We will definitely plan on ordering additional food
for next year. Thanks to all who helped with the years Pig Roast, from the
cooks, kitchen help, ticket takers, servers, and everyone else involved. Great
job!
Also, the 1st Redneck Horseshoe tournament was a lot of fun. Thank you, Jim &
Norene Cooper for chairing this event.

Dear Secord Lake Eagles,
Tom and I would like to thank everyone, whom are too many to name, who went out
of their way to give of their help and time to work on our daughter’s benefit –
The Kim Presson Dinner and Auction. Thanks to the people who gave to the auction
and to those who baked the goodies for the bake sale. All of you helped to make
it a success. An extra special thank you goes to our friend Vicky Roulo who
chaired the benefit. Our family can’t express how much we appreciate everything.

SEPTEMBER 18 and 19th CASINO TRIP
We will be leaving the club at 9:00 AM. The agenda is the same as the previous
years: free drink to start us out, a stop in St. Ignace, then on to the Sault.
We will re-board at noon on Friday, stop again in St. Ignace and then head home,
all winners, of course!
The package is the same as in the past year. Good luck to everybody! If anyone
is interested, when we arrive back at the club on Friday, there will be another
Euchre Tournament for the Presidents' Charity going on, so if you lost at the
casino, maybe you can win at the club!

Redneck Horseshoe Tournament
Our Redneck Horseshoe tournament, held in conjunction with our annual Pig Roast,
was a big hit with players and spectators alike. Fourteen teams took part in the
competition, with Jim & Norene Cooper edging out Ron Weatherington & Claude
Grayson for the championship. We hope this event will become a permanent
addition to our Pig Roast festivities.

The Madam Prez sez…
Sisters,
I am proud to say that since the last newsletter we have increased our Auxiliary
funds by over $500.00!! I am so proud of all of you for this job well done. This
money was raised through the hard work and determination of many ladies,
$247.60 will be going to the Presidents' Charity, and another $265.00 was made
through the selling of the shirts, pins, card carriers and grab bags at the Pig
Roast, THANK YOU ALL for doing a great job! As of this writing, the exact money
that was made through the raffle for the TV and other prizes has not
been determined, but the response that Carla got from the Auxiliary was
wonderful. Thank you all for your support and THANK YOU CARLA AND CREW FOR A JOB
WELL DONE AND GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Teach and her crew are hosting a steak dinner with all the trimmings on the 31st
of August, price is $8.00, why cook on the last holiday of the summer?
A question was asked of me concerning dual membership and the answer is, “every
club sets their own dual membership fees”, so the price for the membership can
vary from club to club. This is stated in the individual by-laws of each club.
I'm glad that I could answer your question.
Things to look forward to....Auxiliary meeting on the 23rd of August,
Variety show on the 29th, Steak dinner on the 31st, Texas Hold’em on the 6th of
September, and then another meeting on the 9th of September.
Sincerely,
Leona Huggard

Auxiliary Chaplain’s Report
We have had some nice summer weather and some good times at the 60's and 70's
dance and the Pig Roast. Please let me know of any members that may need a card
from us.
A sympathy card was sent to Ellen Navidonski and family. A get well card
was sent to Olga Callahan, Darlene St. Louis and Tiny Ouimet.
A thinking of you card was sent to Thelma Haggadone who has been ill. Enjoy
our beautiful Fall in Michigan and safe travels to all.

Trustee’s Corner
As the Summer comes to a close and many of our members are making their plans to
return to their Winter haunts, we find the Aerie and Social Room less busy. In
response to our decreasing usage of the bar we are reverting to our fall opening
time. As of Monday, September 15th, the club will open at Noon. We have had few
members take advantage of our 11 AM opening and will thus save on wages, heating
and air conditioning expenses.
One of the suggestions that the BOT’s received was that we respond to those
members with the results or decisions that we’ve reached in regards to their
suggestions. To that end we have been trying to promptly notify those members as
soon as possible after a BOT’s meeting. Just as all suggestions must be signed
that are placed in the “Suggestion Box”, we ask that you include at least the
phone number of the primary person making the request.
Lastly, we have reached a decision that will surely upset several of our members
in regards to the “drinks with canned pop” issue. We are going to stop giving
patrons the option of using canned pop for their mixed drinks. If you demand
canned pop, you will be sold your personal can of pop for $1, and then sold your
liquor w/ice in the glass you desire for the normal price of a drink. If you
make 3 drinks from your can of pop, your drinks will now cost you 33 cents more.
This is in line with the policies of other Aeries and bars in our area. This
will become effective on Tuesday, September 16th. Please do not give our bar
staff a hard time about this—it is a decision of the BOT’s.
Sunday Darts Returning
September 7th marks the return of Sunday afternoon darts. The focus of this
league is fun and friendship and players of all skill levels are welcome. This
is a walk-in league, so you don't need to make a long term commitment. Play
begins at 1:00 PM and generally lasts a couple of hours. Come and join us.
Polish Fest! Good food, good fun, good friends!
Jak sie masz?
On Saturday, October 4, 2008, the ladies auxilliary will once again showcase
their fabulous cooking talents with a Polish food fest! Mark it on your
calendar. Golabki, Pierogi, Kielbasa and Kraut, and Krusciki for dessert! Food
will be served from 2pm - 8pm, but don't wait too long! Good food goes fast. We
will have full dinners as well as ala carte, and prices range from $1.00 up to
$7.00 for a combo plate. What a great deal! Watch for additional information
on club flyers, the bulletin board, and table tents.
If anyone (new members too) is interested in volunteering their help, we could
sure use it! Please contact Toni McCarthy at 426-1825, or Barbie Jozefowicz
426-2083. Do widzenia!
Fall Pasty Bake
We are again gearing up for our twice a year pasty bake. All orders must be
placed by Friday, October 17 and the actual making of the pasties will be
October 27 & 28. Pick up of orders will begin Tuesday, October 28th. Pasties are
again priced at $3.00 each and must be paid for when ordering. Profits from this
sale go to the scholarships and general funds.
Pool Leagues Starting Dates

Tuesday Men’s Pool League will start on September 9th @ 12:30 PM. Wednesday
Ladies Pool League will start September 10th @ 12:30 PM. Thursday Ladies Pool
