The Worthy Prez sez….
As many members may know, Tom has been on vacation for the last few weeks traveling the American Southwest for his first time ever. He has asked me, the editor, to let everyone know that he has been having “a ball” and only lost a little during his brief stay in Las Vegas. He’s been from Texas to San Diego, passing thru Yuma, AZ and watching the “Gunfight at the OK Corral, Las Vegas as mentioned, Kingman, AZ and was last known to be heading for the Grand Canyon.
He has been keeping tabs on the Aerie throughout his trip—mostly how his sub has been doing on the Tuesday pool league—and will be back before this newsletter reaches everyone.

Sincerely,
Tom Harris
Worthy President

Vets Can Now Salute The Flag
For years, Veterans have wanted to salute the US flag during the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem instead of just placing their hand over their heart. Now they can.
A Congressional Amendment sponsored by Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009 specifically states that "members of the Armed Forces and Veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute." Veterans can salute the flag during the National Anthem as well as during the "the hoisting, lowering and passing of the flag."
"The salute is a form of honor and respect, representing pride in one's military service," said Inhofe. "Veterans and service members continue representing the military services even when not in uniform. The US Code is now consistent for Veterans and all service members in regards to the symbolic gesture of the military salute."

The Madam Prez sez…
Hello Ladies,
As I am writing this letter, I'm thinking about all that we have accomplished these last months and I've got to tell you I am so proud of you all my heart just beats with pride.
This past month Sue and John Beck hosted a three ball tournament at the club and this project netted us (Tom Harris and Myself) $536.00 for our charity, “I Care", together we have raised almost $1000.00 to help people in the Gladwin area, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. This is really what it is all about, “People helping people”.
As we go to press this month we have two other projects that I'm sure will turn our well, the Mexican Dinner, with ala carte items and of course, Darlene and Barry's Spanish Rice , along with the raffle for the quilt ! and the Easter Bunny Breakfast, I would like to thank the chair people for doing these, Stephanie Manick and Brenda O’Neil and their helpers.
Like I stated last month, if you have any interest is any position in the Aux. the sign up sheet will be up in the club soon, your Auxiliary needs you, please think long and hard about what you would like to do for your club and act on it.
Until next month..........................................

Sincerely,
Leona Huggard

Trustee’s Corner
The Board of Trustee’s would like to thank Dave Platz again for his construction and contribution of a bible stand for use during the Aerie meetings. Larry Robinson would like to thank everyone who donated, participated and helped out for the Spaghetti Dinner and Chinese auction. We made over $600 to help with our winter expenses of the club. The Board would also like to thank the Fun Run committee even though the March event did not have the turnout we had hoped for.
Mike Pigula and his crew, along with Mary Grayson and her band of helpers, did another outstanding job for the St. Patrick’s two day celebration. The Reuben sandwiches on Friday and the Corned Beef & Cabbage dinner on Saturday had people raving about how good and filling it was. And the club was decorated festively as well.
The Euchre Tournament on March 20th had 9 tables and it raised over $180. I’m sure that turnout will increase as the snowbirds return from their winter nests.
Lastly, please take note on the front page of the Nomination of Officers meeting and the date of the following elections. Please attend if you can as your input is needed to make this club truly represent it’s membership.
