The Worthy Prez sez….
Well “Hello” again. Here we are in January and I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and New Year’s. The Trustee party was a great time and as usual, they did a great job and everyone should thank them for their efforts throughout the year. I would also like to thank DJ Curt for a job well done – the music was great.
It was brought to my attention that there were several dents and dings done in our parking lot and as most know it is slippery in the winter. So if you do accidentally bump into someone’s car please be courteous and let someone know.
As always, please keep our troops in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,
Tom Harris
Worthy President

*River of Flags*
Once again we are taking applications for our River of Flags display to be held over the Memorial Day Weekend, 2009. Each flag will have a tag attached indicating the sponsor and the name of the person being honored or remembered, as well as a short message, and an insignia for the branch of service, if applicable.  These flags can be dedicated to anyone, living or deceased, service member or not.  The cost of sponsoring a flag is $5.00.  To order, simply fill out the order form *completely*, enclose your cash or check, and mail it to the address below:

Jim or Norene Cooper
3225 Elnor Dr.
Gladwin, MI 48624

We had approximately 425 flags displayed in 2008 and hope to completely fill the riverside of the Eagles in 2009.  We expect a large turnout of visitors over the Memorial Day period, viewing the flags, reading the
dedications, and paying their respects.  We hope you will bring family and friends to view the display.
The flags will remain the property of Secord Lake Eagles after Memorial Day.  We store each flag, along with its attached dedication, for display in future years.  We expect the flags will remain in usable condition for at least three years, and hope the display will keep growing larger each year.
If you have any questions about this project, call Jim or Norene Cooper at 426-2809. Thanks for your support.

What is A Veteran?

Attention Eagle Members
Volunteers are need to work in the bingo kitchen on Thursday night from 5 to 9 PM. For details please contact the kitchen committee members: Cathy Norton @ 426-7354 or Penny Griffith @ 345-5676. All help is greatly appreciated by our kitchen crew.

Trustees Corner
It has been requested by the Building Committee to ask our membership if anyone has a 2-stage snowblower that they are looking to part with—either for a very reasonable price or possibly to donate to the club. Perhaps you’ve moved up to a small tractor or now have a service and you’d like to make more room in the garage. Please call the Aerie if you know of such a deal.
Please remember that members are responsible for their children or minors and that they cannot let them put money into the Charity Games machines as it is a violation of state gaming laws.
And as we work with reduced staff for our winter hours, also remember that bar, drink and food orders come before ticket cash-outs. Please be patient with our bar staff !!!

Thank you, BOT’s

CAMEL RACES - APRIL 18TH
Once again we will be racing camels on April 18th.  If you haven't been to one of our camel races, be sure to come and see what they're all about. All of our sponsors will be decorating their camels and you'll have a chance to vote on the best dressed camel.  We have10 races and the final WINNERS' race.  In each race, fans can bet on the camel(s) of their choice.  Odds will be computed on each camel before the start of each race.  There will be loser drawings at the end of each race.  If you would like to sponsor a camel, contact Jim/Norene Cooper 426-2809 or Larry/Pat Santamour 426-2297.  The cost is $20.00 and if you have a business we will advertise your company in our race program. We will also have coneys & fries.  Circle April 18th on your calendar and help support your aerie with a night of FUN.

Interesting Facts:

What They’re Stealing in Arizona
National Park Service officials will soon embed microchips in Arizona’s signature saguaro cactus plants to deter thieves who dig them up and sell them to landscapers and nurseries. The microchips, which are inserted with a syringe, will help authorities identify stolen plants. Seventeen Carnegiea gigantea were stolen from Arizona’s Saguaro National Park last year; they sell for about $1,000 each. The saguaro isn’t the only cactus to be micro chipped; Arizona and Nevada put chips in barrel cacti in 1999.

Banking Errors
22,000 checks will be deducted from the wrong bank accounts in the next hour.
