Well here we are again. February turned into a good month. The Fun Run was a huge success despite the weather and everyone had a great time. Thanks to all who helped make this event such a success. We also had a Winter Carnival and 3-Ball Tournament that went well. In closing, please keep our troops in your thoughts and prayers.

*River of Flags*
Once again we are taking applications for our River of Flags display to be held over the Memorial Day Weekend, 2009. Each flag will have a tag attached indicating the sponsor and the name of the person being honored or remembered, as well as a short message, and an insignia for the branch of service, if applicable.  These flags can be dedicated to anyone, living or deceased, service member or not.  The cost of sponsoring a flag is $5.00.  To order, simply fill out the order form *completely*, enclose your cash or check, and mail it to the address below:

Jim or Norene Cooper,
3225 Elnor Dr.
Gladwin, MI 48624

We had approximately 425 flags displayed in 2008 and hope to completely fill the riverside of the Eagles in 2009.  We expect a large turnout of visitors over the Memorial Day period, viewing the flags, reading the dedications, and paying their respects.  We hope you will bring family and friends to view the display.
The flags will remain the property of Secord Lake Eagles after Memorial Day.  We store each flag, along with its attached dedication, for display in future years.  We expect the flags will remain in usable condition for at least three years, and hope the display will keep growing larger each year.
If you have any questions about this project, call Jim or Norene Cooper at 426-2809. Thanks for your support.

Children’s Christmas Party
I want to thank all of my volunteers, for helping me make the kids Christmas party a success. Twenty-two children were in attendance. Thanks to you all including Kathy, Diane, Deb, Anna, Tina, Dawn, Penny, Sharon, Christmas Carol, and of course Santa Claus. Please forgive me if I forgot to list your name. I truly appreciate everyone’s help. Also thank you to Russ &Cathy for donating Santa’s new chair. Each child received an age appropriate gift purchased with the money donated by the Aerie and Auxiliary. Ken Crosby from the Gladwin Eagles donated stuffed animals, and Al & Phyllis also came through as usual, also with stuffed animals, so every child received one of those.  John Spanske who is a 4121 member, arranged for us to receive plastic yellow bus toys donated by the Society of Plastic Engineers Detroit Division, so each child received one of those. The children and chaperones had lunch with Santa, they colored, and they decorated sugar cookies. Everyone seemed to have fun.  Thank you all once again.  I couldn't do it without Eagles like you!

The Madam Prez sez…
HI - Since our last newsletter the Aux. has had a pasty dinner and a Valentine Steak dinner - both dinners were sell outs! This was the first year for the Valentine Day steak dinner and hopefully not the last, the steaks were awesome and everyone seemed to enjoy the evening. Thanks to all the people who helped, we had both the Aux. and the Aerie helping on the events, GOOD JOB! I want to thank the euchre people for their help also; those monthly games are fun and raise money for the club, and charities, thanks to all of you. Maybe before my term ends we could have a men vs. women game again?
The ladies will benefit from the St Patty's party, the money from the sale of the shirts will go to the Aux.
Our next monthly dinner will be a Mexican dinner on March21st, from 5:00 ‘til 8:00p.m.
Hope to see a good turn-out for this one too!
As my term in office is coming to an end I would urge every member to look deep into their hearts and think about what you would like to do for your Aux be it an officer, active member, volunteer, or chairperson??????  Until next month........

Sincerely,
Leona Huggard

Annual Boat Parade
Dear Fellow Eagle Members,
I am writing this letter to let everyone know that up to this point, no one to my knowledge has volunteered to chair the Annual July 4th Boat Parade this year.  As I announced at last year's parade, I am stepping down after three years. Besides the Eagles, I also work another job, and June is usually a very busy month for me.  I would appreciate hearing from anyone who would like to keep this tradition going.  You can choose whatever theme you want for the parade.  I will help you out.  I have a whole file of sign up sheets, prize donations, judges score sheets, and flyers.  You can use these things to get you going, and then make it your own!   We have about 2000 members collectively, and I know someone out there loves a parade!  Waiting to hear from you. Barbie J, (989) 426-2083

Dear Aerie & Auxiliary
A sincere Thank You for all the phone calls, emails, help with transportation to doctors and treatments, delicious homemade meals and goodies (delivered right to my door!) during my year long illness. Remission is here, no more chemo, and this could not have happened without each and every one of you. A great example of “Charity begins at home” and “People helping People”. Maggie Gentry

Euchre Alert:
The next to last Monday nite euchre is going on now but sign up for the last and final session before summer will be coming up shortly with a sign up sheet on the board near the end of this month. It will be a 5 week session with play starting promptly @ 6:30. Richard Wujcik, 426-1607
