The Worthy Prez sez….
Happy New Year!! I hope you enjoyed your Christmas holidays. As we look forward
into the New Year, it’s a good time to reflect on all that’s occurred during the
previous year. The volunteers who contribute to our many functions continue to
make Secord Lake # 4121 the place to be! Sadly however, we said goodbye to PWP
and District 12 Officer Tom McCarthy.
I’d like to thank the Board of Trustees for hosting a terrific Membership
Appreciation Christmas party, and the New Years Eve committee for a great New
Years Eve party! A good time was had by all.
This is a 2 month newsletter so please watch the website, calendar, the outdoor
signs and the table tents for all the upcoming events. Euchre tournaments are
scheduled for Friday, January 15th, and Friday, February 19th. A moonlight dart
tournament is scheduled on January 16th to support the Presidents Charity –
Hospice of Gladwin County. Also, there are special events being planned, in
addition to our regularly scheduled activities, including the Winter Fest, a
Trivia night, a Fun Run, and a Valentine’s steak fry and party.
As a reminder, the Aerie business meetings are held the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of
each month beginning at 9:30 A.M. I hope to see you there.
Please keep our members experiencing health problems and the men and women in
our Military in your thoughts and prayers for their safe return home.
Sincerely,
Curt Wingate

Aerie Chaplain Report
Sympathy cards were sent to the following:
The family of Jim Tuttle, who enjoyed the Friday sardine and limburger cheese
parties at the club with many of his friends, to the family of Tom McCarthy,
past president of the club and past chairman of district 12, who if you knew Tom
enjoyed stirring the pot! Cards were sent to Arnie Bartlett on the passing
of his wife of many years, Virginia or Ginny to those of us that knew her and to
John Ross on the passing of his sister, Nancy Sinn, who was also a member of the
Ladies Auxiliary.
Pray for world peace, pray for our brothers and sisters fighting for our freedom
throughout the world.

Up The Chimney He Went
Santa Claus that is! The children appeared to have a super time at their
Christmas party on December 12th. I would like to thank all of the ladies who
helped me with the shopping, wrapping, and working in the kitchen. There are
just too many to mention by name, but you know who you are. And a special thanks
goes to Rhonda Liebhaber for reupholstering Santa’s chair – it looks wonderful,
Judy Geer for graciously donating the yummy “goody” baskets – the kids loved
them, John Spanske and the folks at the Society of Plastics Engineers, Detroit
Section, for their generous donation of the toy plastic vans - those not given
out at the party were donated to needy children throughout the community, and to
Anna Robinson for knitting the hats. Without everyone’s effort the party would
not have turned out so nice. Thanks again, Carol Nowak (Santa’s Elf)

The Madam Prez sez…
Hello Eagles,
I hope this finds you all happy and healthy in our new year, and I hope everyone
had a safe and wonderful Christmas! Our ladies luncheon was delicious, and I
think the attendees all enjoyed the day. Also Carol, thank you and your elves
(the big red elf too) for putting on a delightful children’s party. I know
everyone had fun! The trustees’ party was a very busy and fun day, and we all
ate well as usual. Great job you guys! Thank you for all you do for the
Aerie! I would also like to thank everyone who helped make Christmas possible
for our 2 adopted families this season.
This is a two month newsletter so pay close attention to our online edition.
Things may be added in at a later date and you won't want to miss the fun!
Right now, I know there will be a trivia contest on January 9, 2010 and cash
prizes will be awarded. Single or teams and the cost to play is $00.00 You
can't beat that! Also, Deb Podoley on behalf of the Auxiliary, will be having
a stuffed baked potato dinner on January 15, 2010. For a couple dollars you
will get a baked potato, and there will be MANY different toppings to stuff it
with. This should be fun - baked are my downfall! There is also a Euchre
tournament that night at 7:00PM, and all are welcome to play. On the 16th, there
is a moonlight darts tournament, and once again, all are welcome. On February
13th, the auxiliary will be having a Valentine's steak dinner. You can take
your sweetie out for an inexpensive delicious dinner, and help the ladies all at
the same time. I know we also have our fun runs and winter carnival coming up,
so stay tuned! Every week we have plenty to do at the club. Darts on Monday
evenings, open euchre on Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday evenings, and Bingo
every Wednesday at 6:30pm. If you want to go out and have some fun without a
weekly commitment, our Aerie is the place! In closing I want to wish you all a
safe, healthy and prosperous 2010! Take care and keep each other warm!
God Bless and Secord Smiles,
Barbie Jozefowicz

Auxiliary Chaplain’s Report
Hello, this month get well cards were sent to Sandy O'Rourke and Marcia Lien. We
also sent get well cards to Marge Songer and Stephanie Manick. A thinking of you
card was sent to Maxine Larson. We lost four Auxiliary members, Virginia
Bartlett, Nancy Sinn, Dorothy Coad and Mary Carter. Our thoughts and prayers are
with their families. Please pray for all the troops and their families.

Auxiliary Chaplain
Trustee’s Corner
It was overstated in the last issue about our loss of revenue from the Charity
Games tickets. It has only been in the last couple months but nonetheless we
need to either increase revenue or decrease costs. To this end the BOT’s, having
listened to suggestions and recommendations from some of our officers, have
decided at this time not to raise drink prices. We are however suspending,
effective January 1, “Happy Hour” and "Sports Sunday” drink pricing. We know
this will be an unpopular move but one that is necessary.
We have also introduced a new gaming machine into the social room called
Nudgemaster. It is a casino style video skill game that rewards players with
Visa debit cards. It is here on a 3 month trial basis but so far looks
promising. As always we look for members’ feedback and suggestions but they must
be signed, dated and placed in the box in the Social Room. A phone number
guarantees a reply, if appropriate, on what the Board has determined after it is
read and discussed at a regular meeting of the board.
Trivia Night Saturday, January 9
Have fun playing trivia at the Eagles!! Trivia is free to play. Cash prizes will
be awarded for the top 3 places. There will be other giveaways throughout the
night and 50/50 drawings. Registration begins at 7:30 PM and play will start at
8. The game will take approximately 2 hours to play.
Rules of Trivia
Play by yourself, or with a group of friends, but please only one team per
table. (Max of 8 people per team.)
There will be six rounds of questions with a Half Time Bonus Question and a
Final Question. For each question you will be given one song to turn in your
answer. The Half Time and Final questions you will be given two songs to turn in
your answer.
Each round will consist of 3 questions with varying point values. The 1st three
round questions will be given a 1, 3, and 5 point value. The 2nd three round
questions will be given a 2, 4, and 6 point value. Manage your point values
based on the level of confidence of your answer. Point values can only be used
ONCE per round.
The Final Question will allow you to wager all, some, or none of your total
points – just like Jeopardy.
All answers that are turned in are FINAL.
No shouting out answers or cheating. This includes: cell phones, laptops,
consulting with non-team members, or reference materials. Claude Grayson,
246-0571
Silver (25th) Anniversary Celebration
A committee has been formed to start planning for the aerie’s 25th anniversary.
The date of August 28, 2010 has been chosen. We are asking for members photos of
the club going back to its beginning. If you have a collection of older photos
please put them in an envelope with your name, address and phone number and drop
them off at the club. They will be scanned and returned to you. Also needed is
any information about the current whereabouts of our charter members so that
they may be contacted and informed of our celebration.
Remember our Motto:
If I can not speak well of an Eagle, I will not speak ill of him.
