As I write my final article for the newsletter, I want to take a moment to thank
all of you for your support this past year. The Aerie tried a few new and
different events that were great fun.

this past year as well. To the Aerie officers I served with, Thank you!
I would like to congratulate and welcome our incoming officers: Worthy
President, Pat Halloran; Worthy Vice President, Vaughan Fickies; Worthy
Conductor, Jim Munro; Worthy Chaplain, Dave Huggard; Secretary, Butch Blanchard;

and last but certainly, not least, Trustees, Larry Santamour, Terry Gorgon, Doug
MacLeod, and Larry Robinson. The installation of officers will be held Sunday,

Jim & Norene Cooper for again heading this up. We have a full calendar of events
planned during the summer months, and your support and participation is needed.
Please check out the calendar, table tents and outdoor signs for further
details.
It has been my honor to serve as your Aerie President this past year, and I know
the incoming officers can look forward to your continued support.
Please keep our members experiencing health problems and our Military men &

good to yourselves and each other.

Blood Drive
On June 29th, from noon to 5:00 PM, will be our 4th annual blood drive here at
the Eagles. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board. In most cases,
medications will NOT disqualify you as a blood donor. Your eligibility will be
based on the reason that the medications was prescribed. As long as the
condition is under control and you are healthy, blood donation is usually
permitted. If you have any questions you may call 989-755-5387. As a donor,
sometimes it is a good idea to eat iron rich foods before donating. The
Michigan Blood Center supplies blood in our area. Thank you for all your
support and to all the donors who have given in the past.
Any questions, call Norene 426-2809
New Entertainment Committee
Wayne & Marsha Lien, along with Jim & Diane Miller, have volunteered to serve as
our entertainment committee. Anyone with new ideas or suggestions about what
they’d like to have this summer at the club is encouraged to contact them.

The Madam Prez sez…
Hello Everybody,
I'm baaaaaack! I am proud to stay on as your Madam President for another year.
I would also like to congratulate our new Worthy President, Pat Halloran. I
look forward to working with him this year to be the best Aerie/Auxiliary we can
be.
I am happy to announce that our President's charity will be Sacred Heart in
Gladwin. They are a wonderful organization that helps feed our residents
through their food bank, and has emergency relief for those in need. Curt and I
raised over $1300.00 for our charity, Hospice of Gladwin Area, and I hope to be
at least that successful this year.
I also want to take this time to thank all of the Auxiliary Officers for their
hard work and dedication this past year, and welcome our new Aerie and Auxiliary
Officers for 2010-2011. We had some wonderful new volunteers this past year for
our events, and it would be great to see even more. Remember, the Aerie is all
of ours. Also don't forget to frequently check our official Eagles website at:
www.secordlakeeagles.com
for any additions or changes to the monthly calendar. Let's have a fun year
being “People Helping People”.
Our Aerie is a GREAT Aerie!
God Bless and Secord Smiles,
Barbie Jozefowicz, Madam President

TRUSTEES CORNER
The Board of Trustees would like to clarify the reason for the change in policy
about smoking on the patio or deck. It was not, as some members have been
rumoring about the club, because of complaints from other members of smoke from
the deck entering the club through open windows. It was in fact due to
clarification of the law by the Mid-Michigan Health Department, Gladwin office,
that smoking is strictly prohibited in such areas. It matters not whether we
have service to the deck or not. They stated that since there are tables on the
deck and people could reasonably be expected to carry food or drink outside,
that the ban extended to that area, and that we would be fined if they found
that we allowed that policy to continue. Again, it was the determination by the
Board of Health, not the trustees or officers of Secord Lake Eagles.
Since we have this space to fill, how about some Fun Facts about
Alcohol:
Tom Arnold, Sandra Bullock, Chevy Chase, Bill Cosby, Kris Kristofferson and
Bruce Willis are all former bartenders.
Anyone under the age of 21 who takes out household trash containing even a
single empty alcohol beverage container can be charged with illegal possession
of alcohol in Missouri.
The early Church declared that alcohol was an inherently good gift of God to be
used and enjoyed. While individuals might choose not to drink, to despise
alcohol was heresy.
While there wasn’t any cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, or
pumpkin pie to eat at the first Thanksgiving, there was beer, brandy, gin, and
wine to drink.
Bourbon takes its name from Bourbon County in Kentucky, where it was first
produced in 1789 by a Baptist minister.
The human body produces its own supply of alcohol naturally on a continuous
basis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Did you know that the world’s oldest known recipe is for beer?
The word “toast”, meaning a wish of good health, started in ancient Rome, where
a piece of toasted bread was dropped into wine.
And lastly, Vikings used the skulls of their enemies as drinking vessels. I’m
sure they don’t mean the Minnesota kind.
Articles Needed !!!
Okay, see these 2 bordered boxes? They could have been used to promote a
function or provide news to the membership about items of interest. I need
articles to fill these areas.
